Rolaids Soft Chews Wild Cherry

I have been using rolaids products for most of my adult life. I have never cared much for the flavor of Tums. The first Rolaids Softchews that I tried were Vanilla Creme and I swore I would never try this product again. In a word...they were disgusting. However, necessity sometimes dictates that we re-evaluate our position on things. In this case, I was traveling and needed some heartburn medication and the only thing available was the Rolaids Softchews, Wild Cherry flavor. They weren't tasty like a starburst fruit chew, but they were palatable. Almost good. The flavor didn't leave a nasty aftertaste like the taste the Vanilla Creme left in my mouth. I enjoyed the product and have been purchasing this brand and type ever since. The softchew is also available in Tropical Fruit, which I have not yet tried.

Effectiveness
The most important factor in purchasing a heartburn medication is how well it works. There are products on the market that you can buy that will prevent heartburn before it sets in. Those would probably be the best. However, I don't get heartburn on a regular basis...it sort of comes in spurts. So, I don't really feel a need to treat heartburn preventively. That means that I treat my heartburn when I feel it coming on, which means I want relief to come quickly. I have found that these softchews do the trick quickly and effectively. The acidity is reduced usually with a single chew, but I have had occasion to consume a second chew for added comfort.

Calcium
When my son was younger, his pediatrician recommended that he eat a Rolaid once a day to act as a calcium supplement. I'm not sure if that's just standard advice that Pediatricians give, or if it was something that my son's Pediatrician felt would help him specifically. My son was always good about eating the chalkier counterpart to the softchews. Rolaids tablets are not as bad as Tums when it comes to chalkiness, but they aren't as candy-like as the softchews. Naturally, my son enjoys the softchews more than the Rolaids. He also understands that this is medicine and should not be taken in higher doses than recommended (which for his is once a day as a supplement). With younger children, if you are using this product as a supplement, I would highly recommend putting it somewhere secure, because there is a tendency to view this product as more of a treat than a supplement. The product recommends a maximum of six chews in any 24 hour period.
