Marie Callender's White Meat Chicken Pot Pies
While visiting Costco I was trying to find some quick easy meals to fix at the house. Although I try not to overdo it on frozen foods, I found a large box of Marie Callender's White Meat Chicken Pot Pie's which were moderately priced. The packaging appealed to me, so I decided to give it a try. It was a risky proposition, considering I was buying a large package instead of an individual portion...so if I didn't like it...well, let's just say my nine-year-old would be introduced to the joys of pot pie.
The pot pies come in at least two sizes. I purchased a package of the 10 ounce portions, while they also have a 16.5 ounce portion. The 10 ounce portion is a little bit small for a self-contained meal. It works out well if you fix a salad with it. If you are going to eat only pot pie, you may want to fix two. The 16.5 ounce is an adequate portion to fill you up without any additional food.
Preparation is very simple. I prefer to cook the pot pies in the oven, because the cooking method makes the crust a bit flakier. The box contains a foil-like circle on top that adds in flaking the crust during microwave preparation, but doesn't give the pot pie the same pastry-like goodness that you get from baking. The oven bake method takes 48 minutes (plus a five minute cool down period), so you are in for a bit of a wait with this method. If you are not sure how hungry you are, you may want to go ahead and throw two in the oven. The microwave instructions take eleven minutes with an additional five minute waiting period.
