Remington Oil Lubricant

I own several firearms. Although I am a firearms instructor, it doesn’t seem I get as much range time as I might like. I try and take any opportunity I have to shoot to get plenty of rounds down range. In order to keep my weapons functioning properly I thoroughly clean each weapon after use. I have come to trust various products when conducting weapons maintenance. Ensuring that my weapons will function properly when needed is imperative, so I don’t leave much to chance when servicing my weapons. I have previously reviewed Remington Cleaning Wipes, which are pre-saturated cleaning wipes that make weapons cleaning quick and effective. Another excellent product from Remington is Rem Oil. Rem Oil is the same product infused in the Remington Wipes, but is available in a four or ten ounce non-CFC spray can.

One important factor to consider when using Rem Oil is that this can is both flammable and pressurized. Proper safety at the range will most likely eliminate any situations where this would be a problem. However, if you place this product in a gun bag of some sort and tote it around the range, it could be inadvertently left downrange or could potentially leak into the bag. Although routine shooting will not ignite your gun bag, someone carelessly flicking a cigarette butt certainly might. So it is a good idea to ensure that the cap is on the can when it is stored and that you wipe down any excess that might get on the can during use. It is also a good idea NOT to keep this product stored in a gear bag in the trunk of your car. That would probably be the most likely scenario for a bad set of circumstances to evolve. It is good to use this product in a ventilated area to avoid inhaling the vapors. Additionally, used oil swatches are covered in lead and should be handled carefully. The lead laden refuse should be disposed of carefully and your hands should be washed immediately. The human body perceives lead to be calcium and will store it in your bones, making them brittle over years of use. Proper hand washing will help prevent accidental ingestion of lead contained in used patches.

Rem Oil is more cost effective than Remington Wipes. Whereas twelve wipes will cost you close to five dollars, a four ounce can may be purchased for about the same money. The four ounce can lasts much longer, providing use hundreds of times to the twelve individually wrapped cleaning wipes which are disposed of after each use. The advantage of the wipes is that you have a practically self contained cleaning product which is easily disposed of. In order to clean with the Rem Oil, you will need to provide cleaning rags or patches. Patches are relatively inexpensive and would be much cheaper used in conjunction with this product than the wipes. All things considered, Rem Oil saves money but requires additional products for cleaning.
