Mucinex D

I am just getting over a sinus infection. I got sick on my return flight from Las Vegas (in spite of the healthy doses of Airborn I was taking). Under the weather from whatever crud I picked up on the airplane, my sinuses soon followed suit. When I realized I was getting worse instead of better, I visited my Family Doctor. Doc prescribed an antibiotic to knock out the infection, and suggested that I purchase Mucinex D to clear my sinuses. He advised that Mucinex used to be a prescription drug but that it is now available over the counter.

While I was waiting at Wal-Mart for my prescription to be filled, I checked out the cough drops (making the very unwise choice of Halls Ginger Ale which is a disgustingly flavored cough drop that made me sicker than I already was). I also checked out the Mucinex, mistakenly grabbing Mucinex DM instead of Mucinex D. I returned to the store the following day to find the Mucinex D but couldn't find it anywhere. I checked several drug stores before finally asking at the Pharmacy. One of the active ingredients in Mucinex D is Pseudophedrine HCI, which is a controlled substance even though you don't need a prescription. Pseudophedrine is one of the ingredients used in the manufacturing of Methamphetamine. In order to purchase this product, I was required to sign a log book and show my Driver's License to the Pharmacist. A box of 18 costs about fifteen dollars, while the box of 36 runs around 22 dollars.
