Mucinex DM
On my recent return flight from Las Vegas I picked up the crud. It started as a nasty cold that moved up into my sinuses which subsequently became infected. Yuk. My Doctor prescribed Augmentin for the infection and told me to pick up Mucinex D to clear up my sinuses. I mistakenly purchased the Mucinex DM, which is what I took initially for my sinuses. Interestingly, I was still suffering from the effects of the cold and had a nasty cough.
I did not realize I had purchased the wrong Muxinex until the following morning. What surprised me about Mucinex DM is that it started breaking up my congestion and thinning out my mucus during the night. Even though this product isn't designed for sinuses congestion, it had the added effect of creating some drainage which provided a bit of relief. However, my hacking cough seemed just as bad as ever. I purchased several different types of cough drops to address the hacking. The cough drops provided temporary relief for my cough, which I didn't seem to be getting from Mucinex DM. Although I am impressed with Mucinex D, I could care less for Mucinex DM in terms of it's promised effect.
Mucinex DM is less expensive than Mucinex D (which is kept behind the Pharmacy Counter). A bottle of twenty time released tablets cost around eight dollars, compared to fifteen dollars for eighteen Mucinex D tablets. The back side of the tablets are coated with a special layer that dissolves slowly to create a lasting effect. It is hard to judge whether or not Mucinex DM lasted the full twelve hours because I didn't notice any relief for my cough, which is what this product promises to do.
