Marie Callender's Lasagna In Meat Sauce

I had never heard of Marie Callender's prior to purchasing a case of pot pies from Costco. They were delicious. While visiting Las Vegas last week, I saw a Marie Callender's restaurant, which I'm guessing is the inspiration or starting point for these frozen dishes. While visiting Wal-Mart recently, I saw an entire section of prepared meals marketed as Marie Callender's. Based on my positive experience with the pot pies, I grabbed a 21 ounce portion of lasagna. I think it was around three dollars.

A portion that is 21 ounces may sound like a big portion. But when it comes to lasagna, this is really one big portion. You could split, but why would you go and do a thing like that. I tried the lasagna tonight and made short work of all 21 ounces. I guess if you fixed a salad and some garlic bread, you could stretch this package to feed two people. The packages indicates that there are 2.5 servings inside...but that's just there way of making it look healthier than it is.

When I removed the lasagna from the package, it looked a bit light on the cheese. There are instructions on the box for cooking in a conventional oven or microwave oven. The conventional oven takes an hour, while the microwave requires about twenty minutes...I nuked it. To microwave, you begin by slitting the top and cooking the dish for 6 minutes. You then remove the plastic cover and cook on half power for another seven to nine minutes before letting the lasagna sit for five minutes. Even after a five minute cool down, my lasagna was still piping hot. A second inspection confirmed my initial conclusion that the dish is light on the cheese...and that's the best part.
